Minister of local development meets minister of environment
General Mahmoud Sharawi, minister of local development, held a meeting with Dr. Yasmin Fouad, minister of environment, in which the leaders of the two ministries attended to discuss a number of issues they shared.
The meeting also included an update on the implementation of the new solid waste system in the governorates, which is being implemented by the ministry of local development in strategic partnership and cooperation with the ministries of environment, war production, planning and finance, the Arab organization for industrialization, civil society organizations, the private sector and the informal sector
The meeting also showed a review of the progress achieved in the implementation of the first programme of the waste system, concerning the development of infrastructure and the rates of garbage accumulation and the establishment of intermediate and mobile stations and safe burial cells, as well as an updating on the second programme on management and operating contracts for residential collection, transportation and street clean-up operations.
During the meeting, the two ministers stressed the need for coordination and following-up of special procedures to deal with the problem of random depots, whether through safe closure, conversion to service areas of the removal of old accumulations and their transfer to designated sites for safe handling. They also directed Intensified monitoring of the environmental situation of the depots to take prompt action to resolve and overcome it.
