Egypt and Korea sign a memorandum of understanding in the areas of local development

Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, signed today, Wednesday, with Mr. Lee Sangmin, Minister of Interior Security and Safety of South Korea - the meaning of the local development file - a memorandum of understanding between the two countries, on the sidelines of the current visit of the Minister of Local Development to South Korea to participate in the World Conference of Cities and World Governments.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador Khaled Abdel Rahman, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of South Korea, members of the Egyptian embassy and a number of leaders of the ministries of local development and internal security and safety.

The Memorandum of Understanding provides for joint cooperation between the two countries in the fields of local development and related fields, including the training of local cadres, capacity-building, training, exchange of experience and information in the field of local development, and benefits from the Saemaul Undong Foundation for Korean Rural Development, which is a model for global rural development.

Amna, If we are in Egypt ahead of the way to achieve comprehensive rural development through the President's initiative for Egyptian rural development, we are looking forward to cooperating and benefiting from the experience of the "Saemaul Undong" Foundation on Korean rural development, which for the world is one of the inspiring rural development models. We also look forward to benefiting from South Korea's experience in the field of digital transformation and the use of modern technology and governance of local policies and programs of action.

Major General Hisham Amna said that the challenges currently facing the world, especially with regard to climate change, the effects of the Corona pandemic and other global crises, require strengthening cooperation between countries and governments and benefiting from success stories and good experiences so that we are able to face the challenges and meet the aspirations of our peoples

For his part, South Korea's Minister of Interior Security and Safety said that Egypt has a distinctive geopolitical position for the spread of the Korean wave of public administration, as it represents a strategic meeting point linking the Middle East, Africa and Asia, "expressing its aspirations that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will provide an opportunity to expand cooperation between the two countries not only in the field of regional development, but in all areas of public administration.

The Korean minister welcomed the visit of the Egyptian Minister of Local Development to South Korea , and expressed great interest in cooperation in local development between the two countries, adding that Egypt has a great and ancient civilization and culture and plays a role as a pivotal country in the Middle East and Africa and is a leading country in the Arab world.

He added that South Korea will support the capabilities of Egyptian local cadres and transfer Korean expertise in the same field, praising the presidential initiative "Hayat Kareema “ is being pursued by President Sisi and is being implemented in rural Egyptian villages to ensure equal living in all Egyptian villages, which aims to upgrade the basic infrastructure, provide education and medical services, and upgrade public services.
