The second tender for the Kitchener Bank project

The Ministry of Local Development announces the launch of the second tender for the Kitchener drain depollution project to establish a solid waste recycling and treatment plant in Defra in Gharbia Governorate 

Within the framework of the mandates of the political leadership to work on the implementation of the National Strategy for Climate Change, solid waste management, and improving water quality, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, directed the speedy implementation of solid waste system improvement projects implemented by Kitchener Drain Depollution project  - the solid waste component, funded by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth 79 million euros and a grant from the European Union worth 8 million euro.
The Ministry of Local Development announced the launch of the second tender for the project to establish a solid waste recycling and treatment plant in Defra, Gharbia Governorate, with a design capacity of 1800 tons/day, on the electronic contracting platform of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ECEPP.

The ministry explained that the tender is published through the EBRD client E – procurement portal (ECEPP), For applying for this tender – the firms can obtain the required tender documents by registering on the ECEPP through the following link:

The Ministry notes that submission is available only through the online platform, from 14th November 2022, to 14th January 2023. and that any paper submissions to the Ministry are irrelevant.

In this context, Major General Hisham Amna stressed that the Kitchener Drain Depollution  project is considered the first of its kind in Egypt, as It relies on an integrated approach to tackle several sources of pollution simultaneously through investments to build an integrated system of clean-up, including the construction of recycling plants and treatment of solid waste, intermediate stations, rehabilitation and closure of random dumps, rehabilitation of garages and the purchase of equipment to collect and transport solid waste. The overall objective of the project is to improve public health and the environmental situation, which will help to stabilize the economic and social situation in addition to reducing and adapting to the effects of climate change, the project will improve the quality of life, water bodies and soil quality.
