Amna meets the chief of the African Cities and Local Governments Organization

Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, met with Mrs. Fatima Abdel Malek, chief of the Organization of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa, in the presence of Mr. Jean-Pierre Mbasi, Secretary-General of the organization and a number of leaders of the ministry and the organization, at the beginning of his current visit to South Korea to participate in the work of the seventh session of the World Conference of the World Cities and Governments Organization.

The most notably discussed is Egypt's preparations to host the upcoming climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh this November among a number of important issues

Miss. Fatima Abdelmalek and Mr. Jean-Pierre Mbassi confirmed their great confidence in the new Egyptian organization of the forthcoming summit, to be hosted by Egypt on behalf of Africa

Jean-Pierre Mbassi also pointed out that the upcoming climate summit will be attended by many presidents, mayors and governors from African countries and countries of the world, as happened in the climate summit hosted by France in 2020, where about 1,000 mayors, governors and heads of cities in Africa and other countries participated.

The Secretary General of the organization expressed confidence in the interest of the Government of Egypt in the proposal to hold an African local forum on the sidelines of the upcoming climate summit to discuss the challenges of cities and localities in the continent and their role in confronting and resolving many crises, especially in view of the African continent hosting the next climate conference, as represented by Egypt

For his part, the Minister of Local Development expressed appreciation to the leaders of the African Organization for the convening of a forum to discuss the role of localities in facing challenges, primarily climate change, and indicated that he would work to achieve

During the meeting , a review of Egypt's efforts to host Cairo for the World Urban Forum 2024 was discussed , as this forum is an opportunity to learn about the issues and problems of cities and benefit from the Egyptian development experience.

As well as reviewing the arrangements under way for Egypt to host the forthcoming Africites 2025 summit as one of the most important events on the African scene, with both sides confirming their readiness to sign the hosting agreement during the climate conference in Sharm el Sheikh.

Amna also presented the recommendations and outcomes of the work of the fourth regular session of the Committee of African Ministers of Local Development dealing with the topics of public service, local governments, urban development and decentralization, which Egypt hosted this month of August, under the auspices of President Sisi, and study holding an African forum to exchange successful experiences and experiences at the local level, especially the Presidential initiative “Hayat Kareema" .
